Total inventories fell 0.6% to $123.1 billion in December, on lower goods in process (-3.0%) and finished product (-0.9%) inventories, according to Statistics Canada’s Monthly Survey of Manufacturing.
Inventories declined the most in the transportation equipment (-3.3%) and petroleum and coal (-5.5%) subsectors.
The inventory-to-sales ratio was unchanged at 1.73 in December. This ratio measures the time, in months, that would be required to exhaust inventories if sales were to remain at their current level.
