The capacity utilization rate (not seasonally adjusted) for the total Canadian manufacturing sector was essentially unchanged, remaining at 78.1% in April.
Capacity utilization for fabricated metal product manufacturing showed considerable improvement in April rising to 76.1%, an increase of 4.7% from the previous month and 2.4% better than April of last year, Statistics Canada records show.
Capacity for primary metal manufacturing, a good indicator of future growth for the fabricated metal sector, was down slightly (-0.2%) from the previous month coming in at 77.6% capacity. That’s up 4%, however, from the same time last year.
