Stelco National Steel Sponsor for Mind Over Metal camps

Stelco has announced that it is the National Steel Sponsor for over 80 CWB Welding Foundation Mind Over Metal (MOM) camps that will run throughout Canada in 2018/19.

Stelco will supply the steel used by approximately 20 participants in each camp to create and weld projects. Each camp receives a pallet of steel weighing approximately 860 pounds that would normally cost the CWB Welding Foundation $1,000 to supply.
The MOM camps introduce youth ages 12-15 to welding through safety training, theory and hands on learning. They have been running since 2014, with the inaugural camp hosted in Edmonton, Alta. Many camps focus on at risk youth, Indigenous, women, new Canadians, and the underrepresented. This is the first year that CWB Welding Foundation has had a National Steel Sponsor.
“These camps are specifically designed to provide youth with a hands-on introduction to welding and inspire them to pursue a career in welding,” said Deborah Mates, executive director, CWB Welding Foundation. “Having Stelco as the 2018/19 National Steel Sponsor has allowed us to reallocate funding to offer more camps across the country, which means more welding opportunities for Canadian youth.”
Swent Fabrication & Machine Ltd. also contributed by offering to organize, cut and palletize all the steel donated by Stelco.
