Like many manufacturing jobs, welding used to be a predominantly male profession in this country. But that is slowly starting to change.

Data from CWB Group’s Welding Industry Report 2022 shows that of the 80,900 welders currently working in Canada, four per cent are now female. While males obviously continue to dominate the industry, the number of female welders has increased at an annual growth rate of 9.9% between the years 2011 and 2020.

The average age of the Canadian welder is 39 but the male welder average age is higher than that of females. Male Canadian welders are 39 years old on average while female welders are 35.

Over the past decade, this number has generally remained consistent in this range.
