Alberta manufacturer receives welding productivity award

Weldco Beals, Edmonton, ON, was the recipient of the Canadian Welding Association’s (CWA) Productivity Award. CWA presented the award to the Doug Schindel, president of Weldco Companies. The award recognizes a company that has made an investment to increase efficiencies and productivity of its operations.

 

The award was one of several the CWA presented during an Awards Dinner at the association’s CanWeld Conference, held October 28 and 29 at Niagara Falls, ON.

John Bowker, assistant program director at Natural Resources Canada, Ottawa, ON, and a research scientist with 30 years of experience in metallurgical areas, received the Medallion Award, given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the welding industry on an international level.

Patricio F. Mendez, a professor at the University of Alberta in the Department of Chemical and Materails Engineering was the recipient of the Fellowship Award for his efforts towards advancements in welding sciences, technology application, research, and education. He is the Weldco/Industry Chair in Welding and Joining and Director for the Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining. Steve Siu, founder and president of SKC Engineering, Surrey, BC, a company that provides quality solutions for welding and manufacturing, received the Michael N. Vuchnich Award. Funded by Lincoln Electric Co. of Canada Ltd., the annual award is presented to an individual who has done the most to advance the science, technology and application of arc welding in Canada. Will Morlidge, a member of the CWA Calgary chapter, received the Robert J. Jacobson Memorial Award, which honours an individual who has made an outstanding contribution serving as a member of the chapter executive committee.
