Seven-axis vertical machining center
- October 3, 2021
Makino has introduced the D2 seven-axis vertical machining center.
The D2 is described as a seven-axis, continuous processing platform designed for the high-speed finish machining of large and complex 3D contours typical of dies and molds. It features a tilting/rotating spindle enabling the tool tip to be positioned to provide optimum contact with the workpiece.
The D2 is also outfitted with the Makino Professional 6 control providing a stable, secure platform with reliable performance on the NC side, while providing an operator-friendly graphical user interface (GUI). It offers large colour touch-sensitive, on-screen, menu-driven applications. Icons provide “hot links” and quick access to critical information that may be required by the operator.
The new control platform also provides all of the functions typical of a PC—such as cut, paste, copy, find, replace, etc.—that are rarely available on a machine tool control.
Makino says that the VMC’s advanced data management technology and the company’s proprietary, next-generation Super Geometric Intelligence (SGI.5) servo control deliver the lowest cycle times achievable by reducing machining cycle times on dies, complex cavities and cores by as much as 40 per cent when compared to most other control technologies.
