Heidenhain angle encodersClick image to enlargeHeidenhain has released smarter and faster versions of its RCN absolute angle encoders series for use in machine tools requiring high speed, accuracy and contamination resistance.

The new models RCN 2001, 5001 and 8001 are especially useful with fast rotating axes and direct-drive motors because the permissible speeds are up to three times higher than other RCN encoders.

When paired with an EIB 5211 sensor box, these new RCN encoders will transfer the temperature of the encoder and a direct-drive motor to the control so the operator can push the system to its thermal load limits, increasing production and cost efficiency.

The scanning performance of the new RCN has also been optimized so that any liquid contamination or condensation that enters the encoder will not affect the operation of this encoder which equates to less machine downtime due to encoder failures.

With these recent improvements made to the new RCN encoders, they are ideal for aerospace, medical and turning applications. These applications require highly accurate positioning and high speeds.

R&D in micromachining could provide leading edge to precision manufacturers in Canada

Promising research in micromachining may hold one key to helping Canada’s ultra precision manufacturing industry become more competitive.

Machitech Automation's pipe cutter system

Machitech Automation's pipe cutter system is designed with an automatic chuck system and an automatic clamp and unclamp design to eliminate pipe walk and slippage. All axes use digital AC servo technology. For easy pipe loading and self centering, the machine is built with motorized infeed conveyors with hourglass rollers.

An optional five axis contour beveling unit is available for weld prep, branch cut-outs, saddles and mitre. For flat sheet cutting, the system features an auxilliary 1.2 x 2.4 m (4 x 8 ft) cutting table. Machitech's systems are built using Hypertherm automation products including CNC, plasma and software.
