5X corner rest machining with HyperMill Cad/Cam softwareClick image to enlargeOpen Mind Technologies' latest version of hyperMILL 2020.1 increases ease-of-use and overall programming performance in addition to powerful 3D and five axis Machining enhancements for complex part manufacture.

For highly productive rest material machining, new Corner Rest Machining strategies for 3D and 5-axis techniques means corners can be machined largely by vertical stroking motions, even in mould and die. Traditional z-level steps blend with the vertical section and the lower floor area. The top section has an automatic surface extension to enable the production of sharp edges

New 5-Axis Blade Tangent Milling increases efficiency and improves surface quality when milling with conical barrel cutters that have a large primary angle. As a result, higher feed rates are possible while avoiding center-cutting. Large stepovers provide an excellent surface finish.

Programming is simplified within the Mill-Turn module by a new Automatic Contour Feature Splitting capability which automatically determines the area to be machined based on the turning contour. The grooving job will recognize if a contour is a groove, making it faster and easier to program certain areas.

A new Automation Center allows users to automate the job list creation processes in hyperCAD-S, serving as both a development and runtime environment. New features also include the ability to select and position the clamping device, as well as define a uniform process for all programmers.

Multi-Tasking: Is it Right for Your Shop?

For manufacturers looking to achieve that competitive edge, you can do no better than a multi-tasking machine. They eliminate the need for separate milling and turning machines, multiple set-ups and, most importantly, they improve productivity.

The Rules of X-Ray Micro CT (and When to Break Them)

Offer the term “metrology equipment” to a group of industrial or manufacturing engineers in a word-association test and it's highly likely CMM (coordinate measuring machine) would be the response.
