Cutting fluid for aerospace machining
- March 2, 2019
Castrol has announced that its Hysol SL 45 XBB soluble cutting fluid for aerospace machining operations has received Boeing BAC 5008 approval.
Widely recognized as a requirement of Tier I aerospace part manufacturers, the BAC 5008 approvals are essential for conducting business in the aerospace sector.
Castrol Hysol SL 45 XBB, formulated without boron and formaldehyde releasing agents, serves a range of aerospace alloy cutting processes. It also has received approvals from other major aerospace OEMs including Airbus, Bombardier and Safran.
Hysol SL 45 XBB supports longer tool life and higher surface finish. Its wetting properties help keep machines and parts free from swarf buildup.
One of the main drawbacks of traditional cutting fluid technology is that, over time, the fluid can suffer from bacterial growth and contamination. Castrol says its XBB technology redefines the core properties of cutting fluids, making them resistant to acid attack from bacteria, able to maintain pH at a constant level and therefore more resistant to bacterial growth.
XBB is available in Canada through Castrol’s approved distributor, Wakefield Canada.
