At CMTS 2019 Horn USA will exhibit DDHM, a CVD diamond-tipped tool system for machining of bores and countersinks in carbides and sintered ceramics with a hardness of up to 3,000 HV.

Because the machining process can be implemented on conventional milling or turning centres, the tools do away with costly and lengthy grinding and eroding processes. The DDHM system is designed for the tool and die-making sector because it allows manufacturers to machine punches or dies efficiently from carbide material, but it is also suitable for the medical, aerospace and automotive industries; and in areas of punching, forging, and forming technology. The diamond tools enable shorter throughput times, high surface quality, lower overall costs, greater flexibility within the production process, and longer tool life for the finished products.

The drills can be used for drilling into solid material down to a maximum depth of ten times the diameter. The CVD-D-tipped drilling tools have a two-edged design and are available in diameters ranging from 2 to 10 mm (.079 to .394 in.). All versions feature an internal coolant supply. Horn offers the CVD-D end mill for chamfering and countersinking from stock with diameters of 3 and 6 mm (.118 and .236 in.) and with flank angles of 15º, 30º, and 45º. The 3 mm (.118 in.) version has five teeth while the 6 mm (.236 in.) version has six.
