Turning inserts for various cutting conditions

A new range of turning inserts from Sandvik Coromant adds more flexibiity to small batch production environments.

Spectrum turning is a minimu program that provides a simplified choice of inserts to machine different materials at various cutting condtions. The company says the grades and geometries eliminate the complication of having several different tools for different cutting jobs.

Whether external or internal machining, rough turning or finishing, machining continuously or with interrupted cuts, the new inserts are versatile tools designed to deliver high performance output in terms of reliability, tool life and chip control, claims Sandvik Coromant.

The grades can be used for turning steel, stainless steel, HRSA, cast iron, titanium and non-ferrous metals.

Two grades are being launched: GC15 combines high strength micro-grain cemented carbide with a thin, PVD coating that adds edge strength and wear resistance; and GC30 has high bulk toughness with a gradient cemented carbide substrate and a highly wear and heat resistant CVD coating.
