Machine Tool Systems has introduced the S31 Series CNC universal grinders along with automated solutions and new C.O.R.E. technology.

The S31 is a cylindrical grinding machine for small to large workpieces in single, small and large series production. It has a distance between centres of 400 mm (15.7″) / 650 mm (25.6″) / 1,000 mm (40″) / 1,600 mm (63″) and a swing diameter of 350 mm (13.8″). It can machine workpieces with a maximum weight of 150 kg (330 lbs).

Thanks to the upgradeable modular system, the S31 can be adapted to match the user’s precise requirements. The swiveling wheelhead, with a high-resolution B axis of 0.00005°, allows the user to externally, internally and face grind workpieces in a single clamping. Its foundation is a machine base made of solid Granitan S103.

Hardware:

  • frequency-controlled, motor-driven grinding spindles for both external & internal grinding
  • workhead C axis for form & thread grinding
  • an additional T-slot integrated into the worktable for dressing devices
  • full enclosure with two sliding doors
  • Granitan S103 mineral casting machine base

Software:

  • intuitive programming with StuderPictogramming
  • reduced setup and resetting times with STUDER Quick-Set
  • high-speed machining (HSM) for efficient and high-precision form grinding
  • standardized interfaces for loader and peripheral devices
  • flexibly expandable with integrated software modules
  • StuderWIN programming software (optional) for creating grinding and dressing programs on an external PC

The FlexLoad Automation System serves as a standardized and fully integrated part-loading solution for many OD and ID grinding machines that can increase productivity by 33 percent over a five-day period compared to human operators working alone. United Grinding Automation Solutions also has the capacity to develop custom solutions for every brand, including integration with diverse manufacturing systems.

The C.O.R.E. technology is based on the new C.O.R.E. operating system, which equips the machine with intelligence. The uniform C.O.R.E. software architecture enables data to be exchanged between the United Grinding machines. The integrated UMATI interface can also be used to communicate with third-party systems. It also offers access to United Grinding Digital Solutions products directly on the machine, without requiring the installation of supplemental hardware. C.O.R.E. establishes the technical foundation for this and other IoT and data applications, and also forms the basis of uniform operation.
