Haas Automation has introduced a turning centre for shops wanting more capacity without the space requirements of larger footprint lathes. ST-15 is the latest and smallest addition to the the company’s big bore machine line.

The turning centre offers a 63.5 mm (2.5 in.) bar capacity and a maximum cutting capacity of 356 x 356 mm  (14 x 14 in.) with a swing of (16.25 in.) over the cross slide. It’s equipped with a 211 mm (8.3 in.) hydraulic three-jaw chuck and 12 station BOT turret. The A2-6 spindle nose has a 89 mm (3.5 in.) bore. The machine’s 20 hp vector dual drive spindle turns to 4,000 rpm and provides 46 m/kg (150 ft-lb) of torque. On-the-fly wye delta switching yields a wide constant horsepower band for constant surface feed cuts and 30,480 mm/min (1,200 ipm) rapids and fast turret indexing to reduce cycle times.

Standard equipment on the ST-15 includes rigid tapping, a 15 in. colour LCD monitor, and a USB port. Available high productivity options include high torque live tooling with C axis, a belt-type chip conveyor, a tailstock with hydraulic quill, an automatic tool probe, an automatic parts catcher, high-pressure coolant systems, and much more.
