Quick change flex clamping “locators”

Fixtureworks has introduced quick change flex clamping “locators.”

Designed for quick change applications, these flex clamping locators locate and fasten in a single operation without the use of tools. They provide fast and accurate fixture changes, mounting the same fixture on different machines, machining from five sides on one fixture and quick fixture setup. The Fixtureworks Flex Locator System also consists of tapered pins and receiving bushings. In combination, these parts are designed to be mounted on fixture bases and plates to allow for accurate locating and positioning with repeatability to .01 mm.

The locators are available in quarter-turn on/off knobs, adjustable handle, cam handle and hex head styles, and are supported with receivers, covers and adjustable torque wrench.

The quarter turn knob style is used with flex receivers for accurate locating. These parts are designed to be mounted on fixture bases and plates for accurate locating and positioning and allow for repeatability when moving to a new machine or different operation: precise +/- 0.01 mm repeatability when plates are mounted horizontally, or +/- 0.02 mm repeatability when plates are mounted vertically. The body and shank are made from steel with a black oxide finish. The tapered pin is also made from steel with a nitrocarburized finish. The knob is made from stainless steel with a natural finish.

The adjustable handle style is designed to be mounted on fixture bases and plates for accurate locating and positioning and allow for repeatability when moving to a new machine or different operation.  The handle is made from die cast zinc with a silver-grey painted finish.

The cam handle version attains +/- 0.008 mm repeatability when plates are mounted horizontally or +/- 0.01 mm repeatability when plates are mounted vertically. The body is made from alloy steel, nitrocarburized treated. The cam handle is made from heat-treated alloy steel with a black oxide finish. Balls are made from steel.

The hex head style—in either tapered or straight versions—can be used on a wide variety of fixturing and allow for repeatability when mounting. This allows a fixture plate to be mounted on different bases accurately when moving to a new machine or different operation. The clamping screw is made from heat-treated steel with a black oxide finish. Balls are made from steel.

The series from Fixtureworks also includes complementary receivers. The locator receivers are used with flex locator knob and handle fasteners. In combination, these parts are designed to be mounted on fixture bases and plates for accurate locating and positioning.

The protective covers are mounted in hex-head or cam handle receivers to keep out dirt and contaminants while the bushings are not in use. They mount flush so there is no interference. Covers are made from aluminum and supplied with mounting screw. The O-ring is made from nitrile rubber and locator torque wrenches with or without socket.
