Ottawa invests $12 M in Manitoba projects

The federal Minister of International Trade Diversification, Jim Carr, has announced that Ottawa will be providing $12 million in funding for a range of projects in Manitoba.

Manitoba’s Red River College will receive up to $3 million “to increase technology adoption and testing capabilities for heavy vehicle manufacturers in collaboration with industry partners and the Vehicle Technology Centre,” reports CTV News Winnipeg.  

Also receiving funding:

  • up to $2.2 million to the University of Manitoba to create industry-academia links with a view to fostering economic development, in partnership with other Manitoba post-secondary institutions and the Business Council of Manitoba;
  • up to $1.86 million for the World Trade Centre Winnipeg to “develop cluster-based trade strategies to increase exports for Manitoba businesses”;
  • up to $4.98 million to Harvest Venture Builder Inc. to develop a business accelerator to support business scale-up.

The funding is part of Ottawa’s “Western Canada Growth Strategy.”
