OSG Corporation has announced the “OSG 4.0” smart manufacturing initiative.
One of the key elements of the new project is the construction of the NEO Shinshiro Factory for smart manufacturing. Construction is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed by spring 2020. The new 16,300 sq m (175452 sq. ft.) facility will be situated adjacent to the existing 32,200 sq m (346598 sq. ft.) Shinshiro Factory in Shinshiro City of Aichi Prefecture. The revamped NEO Shinshiro Factory will have a total production space of 48,500 sq m (522050 sq. ft.) equipped to manufacture carbide drills and carbide taps, as well as coating services utilizing some of the latest available technologies.
The OSG Product Data Management (OPDM) system, automation programing and monitoring are some of the other key focuses of the OSG 4.0 project. OSG says that it plans to achieve 72-hour unmanned manufacturing at a ratio of 60 per cent or better by 2024, a machine continuous utilization rate of 85 per cent or better, and a 10 per cent overall cost reduction.
