Okuma launches five axis VMC and new energy management software

Okuma America Corporation has launched a new five axis vertical machining centre at IMTS 2022, along with a software-driven energy management and optimization technology designed for Okuma CNC machine tools.

The new VMC – the GENOS M560V-5AX – builds on Okuma’s flagship GENOS M VMC series with the addition of five axis capabilities. This product is making its world debut in the Okuma booth (#338500) at the event.

The new VMC was evolved from two of the company’s top VMCs – the GENOS M560V and the GENOS M460V-5AX, which launched in 2017 to address demand for an affordable, compact five axis vertical machine.

The GENOS M560V-5AX is built to a double-column machine design, which enhances structural integrity. The machine offers a large working envelope with a 500 mm table and wide axis travels (X: 1,050 mm, Y: 560 mm, Z: 460 mm), within a compact footprint of 2,515 mm x 3,750 mm. The GENOS M560V-5AX includes a trunnion table positioned parallel to the front of the machine which allows for easier access to the table and positive visibility during machining. This and other user-friendly features reduce physical burden on the operator. Additionally, the machine comes standard with a 60 ATC (automatic tool changer) magazine and can also accommodate tools measuring up to 400mm in length.

The GENOS M560V-5AX comes standard with Okuma’s Thermo-Friendly Concept, an on-board thermal and energy management technology to support both stable, high-accuracy machining and reduce energy consumption.

Key specs:

  • Table size: 500 mm
  • Max workpiece dimensions: 700 x 500 mm
  • Spindle maximum speed: 15,000 min⁻¹
  • Spindle motor power: 22/18.5 kW
  • Axis travel: 1,050 mm (X-axis), 560 mm (Y-axis), 460 mm (Z-axis)
  • Floor space: 2,515 x 3,750 mm (w x d)
  • Weight: 10,000 kg

Okuma’s new software-driven energy management and optimization technology – ECO suite plus – is receiving its Western Hemisphere debut at the show. ECO suite plus will be demonstrated on two Okuma machines (MB-80V bridge mill and MA-8000H machining center) at the company’s booth.

ECO suite plus

The ECO suite plus technology is Okuma’s latest addition to a suite of products designed to support global and corporate sustainability initiatives. The inaugural ECO suite system was launched in 2014. ECO suite plus builds on the prior technology releases by providing management and control of specific machine operations and peripheral devices during the machining process and in idle mode. Both the Thermo-Friendly Concept and ECO technologies are powered by Okuma’s proprietary OSP control, a Windows-based, open-architecture platform.
