Multi-tasking for large part, deep hole drilling

Mazak’s Quick Turn Nexus (QTN) 550 MY multi-tasking turning centre that features a long boring bar to handle long, large workpieces.

The machine is capable of heavy duty milling, turning, drilling and threading. It features a tool turret with Y axis movement and a long boring bar with deep hole capability.

Mazak’s special combination tailstock on the machine is equipped with a bull nose centre and extended length boring bar. This allows for deep-hole boring to depths of 46 in. (1,168.4 mm) long and large-diameter tubing and pipe, such as those often processed in the oil and gas and heavy-equipment industries.

The machine’s 80-hp, 500-rpm headstock with a spindle-bore size of 14.7 in. (373 mm) provides for heavy duty machining and high torque performance. A full-contouring C axis provides high accuracy positioning to within 0.0001 degree.

Part-processing times are further shortened with the machine’s full function VDI drum-style turret that provides 12 tool positions and live milling with a 4,000-rpm, 10-hp rotary spindle. A major feature for a big-bore machine, such as the QTN 550, is a rigid, double-slide Y-axis with generous travels that measure 4 in. (102 mm) (2 in./50.8 mm + 2 in./50.8 mm).
