Manufacturers favour workplace vaccine passports: survey

A survey by Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) has found that while most Canadian manufacturers support vaccine passports, they also feel “strong clear guidance” from government has been lacking.

Polling nearly 1000 manufacturing companies across Canada, CME found 69 per cent endorse the use of vaccine passports to protect employees and their families – although fewer than 25 per cent are actually requiring them right now.

But manufacturers are disappointed at the lack of clarity and guidance demonstrated by governments at all levels in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Right now, there is a lack of clarity about the use of the vaccine passport in the workplace,” said CME CEO Dennis Darby. “Businesses want to make sure their hands are free to move forward. Provinces must provide companies with the necessary tools to reduce the risks.”

If a vaccine passport is introduced, manufacturers also want to see restrictions eased for anyone who is fully vaccinated.

“We believe that with clearer rules vaccination levels will increase, and manufacturers who can prove their workforce is vaccinated can return to pre-COVID operational health and safety guidelines,” Darby said.
