The Canadian manufacturing continues to grow, hitting the highest level in 2.5 years in October, according to the RBC Canadian Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI). The PMI is a monthy survey that serves as a gauge of manufacturing business conditions.
After adjusting for seasonal variation, the RBC PMI - a composite indicator designed to provide a single-figure snapshot of the health of the manufacturing sector - rose to its highest level in 30 months during October. At 55.6, up from 54.2 in September and above the series average of 53.3, the RBC PMI indicated a strong improvement in Canadian manufacturing operation conditions.

Pratt & Whitney Canada's $275 million investment gets $19 million support from Quebec government
Pratt & Whitney Canada, Longueuil, QC, is investing $275 million to upgrade its manufacturing operations and it's getting $19 million in financial aid from the Quebec Ministry of Finance and the Economy.
The expansion is expected to created 90 jobs. The multi-million project includes the creation of a world-class centre of excellence for intelligent manufacturing with three automated production lines for critical components of the new generation of Pratt & Whitney USA's PurePower engines.

In 2014, Mazak Corp. will celebrate a milestone: 40 years of manufacturing in North America. The machine tool builder kick-started the celebration early with its "Discover 2013: A Discover More with Mazak" event, which ran October 8 to 16 at the company's North American headquarters in Florence, KY. Close to 3,000 customers attended the event including more than 130 Canadian manufacturers from across the country.
