Mazak’s latest machine tool for the medical manufacturing market is the Vertical Centre Nexus compact, a high speed five axis vertical machining centre designed for machining small, complex medical parts.
The machine is available in three and five axis versions, and features the new Mazatrol Matrix 2 CNC control on the five axis model and the Matrix Nexus CNC control on the three axis machine. The Matrix 2 CNC control makes part programming simple and fast while also delivering increased machining speed and accuracy, as well as superior surface finishes often required in medical manufacturing, claims Mazak.
The machine is equipped with a high torque 20 hp, 12,000 rpm CAT 40 spindle and features axis travels of 500.1 mm in X (19.69 in.) x 400 mm (15.75 in.) in Y and 330 mm (12.99 in.) in Z. It is equipped to machine tough metals such as stainless steel, Inconel and titanium. An optional 40 hp, 20,000 rpm spindle is available.
With a 1, 651 mm ( 65 in.) x 2, 235 mm (88 in.) company footprint, the machine fits easily into most facilities so shop owners don’t have to sacrifice valuable manufacturing floor real estate to achieve high levels of production. The machine’s table measures 650.2 mm x 398.7 mm (25.6 in. x 15.7 in.) and accommodates parts up to 330 kg (661 lb).
The machine’s three linear axes attain high speed rapid traverse rates of 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) and fast feedrates of 8 m/min (315 ipm). Plus, it accommodates 20 tools in its tool magazine (30 tools optional) to further increase part production versatility.
It features Mazak’s MX Hybrid Roller Guide System, which dampens vibration to extend tool life, handles higher load capacities, accelerates and decelerates faster to shorten cycle times, consumes less oil for “greener” operations, and lasts longer with less required maintenance.
