The Canadian Tooling & Machining Association (CTMA), in partnership with Mazak Corp., Iscar Tools and Sandvik Coromant, is launching an educational event for educators and for industry.

Technology Days takes place June 14 and 15 at Mazak Canada’s facility in Cambridge, ON.

According to Robert Cattle, executive director of the CTMA, “this event will help educators provide guidance and information to their students who may have the attitude and aptitude for a machining and/or tooling career. We feel those who have a direct influence on high school students’ career choices can dispel some of the career myths about the machining, engineering and manufacturing sector by sharing experiences and providing information that they will learn by attending this Technology Day.”

Day one of the two-day event will bring together high school counsellors, principals, federal and provincial politicians and government representatives to help them learn about the machine tool manufacturing industry and how it contributes to advanced manufacturing jobs in Ontario. It will highlight industry’s efforts to encourage and provide career opportunities for youth and efforts being made to close the skilled trades gap.

Day two will be more technical and is designed for tradespeople, apprentices and pre-apprentices. They will learn and see leading edge CNC machining and cutting technologies, and will have the opportunity to listen in on technical presentations.

For more details or to RSVP, contact CTMA’s Jerri Kelly by email or by telephone at (519) 653-7265.
