Kyocera acquires SGS Tool

Kyocera Corp. has acquired SGS Tool Co., based in Munroe Falls, OH. The company and its subsidiaries will remain in Munroe and maintain manufacturing in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Columbia City, IN. It also manufactures tooling the UK.

Tom Haag, president of SGS Tool Co. says Kyocera’s business model “offered many solutions to our business challenges approaching over the next decade. From basic raw material to research & development solutions, the company is well-positioned for the market challenges and innovations of the next decade and beyond.”

SGS was formed in 1951 and is known for its solid carbide end mills, drills, stainless steel medical tools and subsequent PVD coatings. More than 30 per cent of the company’s sales are exports to more than 60 countries.

Kyocera Corp. is based in Kyoto, Japan, which manufactures cutting tools, industrial ceramics, solar power generating systems, mobile phones, printer, copiers, electronic components and semiconductor packages.
