Iscar Tool’s latest innovations includes new adjustable-pocket face mills in the Alutang family, designed to carry primarily PCD or PCBN tipped inserts for use on cast iron, hardened steel, aluminum or any other non-metallic materials.
Such tools are used mainly in the automotive and aerospace industries.
The company recommends using these new inserts with IB85 or IB55 tips for grey cast iron, ID8 for composite materials and ID5 or ID8 for aluminum.
As these applications require high speed machining, they are dynamically balanced for high RPM (G2.5 grade). A set of radially positioned screws enable balancing the cutters for these high rotational speeds.
The cutter body is made from high strength aluminum and specially coated for high surface hardness and reduced adherence of the removed material.
The lightweight cutters enable better acceleration/deceleration features and reduce spindle loading, which increases its life.
The cutter is equipped with a frontal cover which causes the coolant supply to flow radially, carrying the chips out of the machining zone. This prevents re-cutting of the chip, reducing built-up edge phenomenon and thus providing excellent surface finish (minimum recommended coolant pressure should be 20 bar).
The new tools are designed with insert pockets that feature axial, bi-directional adjustment rear screws. This mechanism enables an adjustment of insert front end axial position within 0.002 mm.
The F90LN-AFR CA11 tools can also be used for regular Tangmill LN 1106 inserts, for applications which require precise frontal edge adjustment.
These adjustable tools provide excellent surface finish and prolong insert life. The face mills are available in a range of 50 to 160 mm diameters.
