The VC-EZ 16X was one of the many machines on display at Mazak's DISCOVER 2023 and it received considerable attention.
Mazak hosted its DISCOVER 2023 October 9-13 at its North American headquarters in Florence, Kentucky.
The event, which attracted thousands of manufacturers from both Canada and the U.S., included four action areas of live machine tool demonstrations as well as automation and digital solutions.
Anchored by the theme “Learn more. Do more. Make More.”, the private event offered participating manufacturers the opportunity to learn about a wide range of new Mazak, multi-tasking, high production, advanced manufacturing technology and job shop solutions.
Job shop solutions included Mazak’s new Ez series of machines, which the company says can offer solutions for manufacturers of any size. The full lineup of Ez vertical, turning and multi-tasking machining centres are designed and manufactured at the Florence, Ky, plant.
The high production technology area showcased Mazak’s new SYNCREX series of Swiss-style machines designed for high-volume production of small, precise parts.
Two additional areas placed the spotlight on Mazak’s multi-tasking and advanced manufacturing technologies. Among the featured machines in the multi-tasking action area were Mazak’s INTEGREX and QUICK TURN series that combine multiple operations for DONE IN ONE processing of raw materials to finished part.
The advanced manufacturing technology action area focused on Mazak’s two new NEO series of machines. The VARIAXIS NEO series of 5-axis machining centres provides multiple surface simultaneous machining in a fast and compact machine, Mazak says. Meanwhile the HCN-5000 horizontal machining centres are Mazak’s newest additions to its best-selling line of horizontal machines.
Also featured in the advanced manufacturing action area was the VC-500A/5X HWD HYBRID multi-tasking machine, which incorporates joining and additive technologies.
Attendees of DISCOVER 2023 were also able to explore the Mazak Kentucky campus, including the centrepiece Mazak iSMART factory. They were able to tour the building and see Mazaks building Mazak in real time. Mazak invested $8.5 million in new manufacturing technology in its iSmart Factory operations back in 2019. The investment encompasses the installation of a new manufacturing cell with fully automated storage and retrieval system, six of Mazak’s most advanced machine tools and several Mazak SMOOTH Technologies
Tours of Mazak’s new 27,000 square foot SYNCREX production facility were also available. The 27,000-square-foot building combines engineering, production and applications support for the company’s recently launched SYNCREX Series of Swiss-style machine tools designed specifically for precision high production of small parts. With an output capacity of up to 10 machines per month, the SYNCREX building features all the necessary overhead cranes and equipment its employees need to produce 16 different models within the SYNCREX Series for serving the North American market.
