Québec-based Demers Ambulances, in collaboration with Lion Electric and the Québec government, unveiled its new 100 per cent electric ambulance on October 18.
Demers Ambulances is a leading manufacturer of ambulance vehicles in North America. Lion Electric, which is also based in Québec, is a leading manufacturer of all-electric medium and heavy-duty urban vehicles. The R&D teams from the two companies have been collaborating for nearly five years to design the all-electric ambulance model, with input from paramedic technicians and emergency medical service companies.
The current agreement between Demers and Lion Electric covers the deployment of at least 1500 vehicles over the next five years. The vehicle will be assembled by Lion in Saint-Jérome, QC, and the medical compartment and final assembly will be carried out by Demers in Beloeil, QC, where the release event took place.
The ambulance will be commercialized in the second half of 2022. Demers anticipates a large market for the vehicle for pre-hospital emergency transport and care throughout Québec and North America, and eventually worldwide. Demers and its affiliated brands are already in service in 43 countries.
