Building an extra large pressure vessel

Building a super-large pressure vessel for a huge ship is a challenging process.

As this video shows, construction requires rolling plate up to 125mm thick and 4m wide, twin tandem sub arc welding, and long seam and circular seam back milling. A high degree of automation is employed, including robotic cutting of dished end and shell penetrations, robotic GMAW welding and laser seam tracking for precise weld placement. Testing is done using nondestructive methods such as ultrasound, radiography and pressure tests.
