Fabricated metal manufacturing defies capacity utilization rate decline

The capacity utilization rate for the Canadian manufacturing sector decreased from 78.6% in September to 77.4% in October, on lower production, according to Statistics Canada. Fabricated metal manufacturing, however, improved its capacity utilization.

The capacity utilization for fabricated metal manufacturing increased 1.4% from the previous month, hitting 79.0% and outpacing the Canadian manufacturing overall mark.

Examined on a year-over-year basis, fabricated metal manufacturing did even better showing a 1.9% improvement. Similarly, the capacity utilization rate for Canadian manufacturing overall was down to a lesser degree (-0.6%) when compared on a year-over-year basis.
