Higher production boosts Canadian manufacturing capacity utilization rate

The capacity utilization rate (not seasonally adjusted) for the total manufacturing sector rose from 73.7% in January to 76.9% in February on higher production, Statistics Canada records indicate.
The capacity utilization rate increased in 14 of 21 industries in February and was particularly noticeable in the transportation equipment (+10.6 %) sector. Higher production of motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts contributed to the increase in capacity utilization of transportation equipment.
Other sectors of relevance to metalworking that posted positive capacity utilization gains include: durable goods (+4.4%); primary metal manufacturing (+1.0 %); fabricated metal manufacturing (+0.3%); machinery manufacturing (+3.3%); and furniture and related product manufacturing (+8.9%).
