An Ontario machine tool distributor has reached a social media milestone by receiving more than 1 million views on its You Tube channel.

Machine Tool Systems Inc., Toronto, is a distributor of CNC grinding equipment and accessories, 3D printers and filtration products. John Manley, president, says his 1,000-plus subscribers and 1,001,785 views on his You Tube channel is an industry first.

"It's unheard of in our industry to achieve these numbers on social media," says Manley. "What's interesting is that our site, which began as a resource for our customers, has become a global resource for manufacturers and other machine tool distributors looking for infomration on leading edge changes in the technologies we cover."

Asked what he attributes his social media success to he says its partly due to interest but also due to how he has strutured his You Tube channel to make it more relevant for users.

"We've created playlists so that people who come to the channel can see information that is relevant to them. So if you're interested in gear grinding, we have a play list for that specific topic. So we don't create just a general You Tube channel."

Manley adds that he uses other social media tools to increase exposure to a technology or product, which in turn has increased traffic on his You Tube site.
