Big expansion for Koike Aronson
- September 8, 2013
Koike Aronson Inc./Ransome has expanded its main facility in Arcade, NY, with a 30,000 sq ft expansion.
FThe new manufacturing and office space expansion has been nicknamed the "Big House." With the expansion, the company's facility is now 167,000 sq ft.
The new area houses the company's positioner assembly department and two new paint booths. Two overhead cranes with 134 ft (41 m) spans are considered the largest cranes ever to be built and installed in New York state, says Aronson.
“Our business has increased tremendously over the past several years” says CEO Jerry Leary, who also noted that about a third of Koike’s sales are overseas.
He says part of the reason for the expansion was to allow Koike Aronson to bid on integrated systems for large customers.
"A large part of our business has gone to systems rather than individual machines. So we're selling machines with cutting tables, some with material handling. On the welding positioner side, we require a lot more space to build systems. In 2013, we build the largest gear elevated table positioner ever made in the industry. It weighed 250 metric tons and was shipped to a customer in China in the nuclear energy market. Anyone making large equipment doesn't just want welding positioners; they also want the control system and robotics. Up until this expansion we haven't been able to quote on the whole system and now we can."
Leary says Canada has always been a good market for Koike Aronson. The company sells through manufacturing reps based in BC, Alberta, Ontario and in the Maritimes as well as through distributors, such as Linde Canada. "Linde Canada has sold more of our cutting machines than any other distibutor in North America," says Leary.
He says he's cautiously optimistic about growth for 2014.
"Infrastructure in North and South America really needs to be attended to. Highways, bridges, airports and the entire transportation system needs work so they'll need machinery to fix things."
