Capacity utilization rate drops for metal fabricators

The capacity utilization rate (not seasonally adjusted) for the total Canadian manufacturing sector decreased from 78.3% in February to 78.0% in March, on lower production, Statistics Canada reports.

The capacity utilization rate in fabricated metal subsector was down three percentage points, dropping from February 74.6% capacity rate down to 71.6% in March.

On a year over year basis, capacity utilization in the fabricated metal subsector is down 7.2% from the 78.7% mark posted back in March of 2023.
