Canadian fabricated metal product sales outpace manufacturing average

Canadian manufacturing sales increased 0.7% to $71.6 billion in February, on elevated sales in 13 of 21 subsectors, according to Statistics Canada’s Monthly Survey of Manufacturing.

Sales of fabricated metal products surpassed the national manufacturing industry average, rising 0.9% over the previous month. Compared to the same time the previous year, however, sales of fabricated metal products were down 2.8%.

Transportation equipment sales, an important market and key indicator for metalworking job shops, were up 0.7% in March and more significantly up 12.5% compared to the same time the previous year.

Sales in constant dollars for manufacturing sales overall edged up 0.1% in February, while the Industrial Product Price Index increased 0.7%.
