OMAX Corp.’s 55100 JetMachining centre is a cantilever system machine capable of cutting large, complex parts up to 1.2 by 2.5 m (4 by 8 ft) from a variety of materials, including composites, exotic alloys, metals and rubber.

The machine was recently featured at the Western Manufacturing Technology Show, June 4-6 in Edmonton, AB, and was equipped with a 40 hp EnduroMax pump, Tilt-A-Jet cutting head and rotary axis. The machine is powered by the company’s Intelli-Max software suite that OMAX claims offers faster, more precise and more accessible machining than competitive abrasive waterjet systems. The software has a patented motion control technology for faster and more accurte waterjet cutting across a range of materials. The company says the Tilt-a-Jet allows the machine to achieve zero taper for precision cutting of high tolerance parts with square edges, including interlocking pieces and dovetail fittings. The cutting head automatically calculates and adjusts the angles of the nozzle to remove the natural taper from the finished part by transferring it to the scrap material. When equipped with the optional rotary axis, the 55100 can create accurate, complex 3D parts from pre-existing CAD or DXF files. The rotary axis is suitable for cutting pipe, circular or square stock materials and incorporates multiple mounting features on the output drive shaft.
