Indexable insert hobs for gear milling

The CoroMill 176 range of full profile hobs for spur gears, helical gears and splines is now incorporates module 3-10 applications. The indexable insert hob, introduced two years ago, can reduce cutting time by up to 70 per cent,

claims Sandvik Coromant, large through the application of cutting speeds up to four times higher than conventional high speed steel cutters. They’re available for roughing, semi-finishing and finishing operations and can be used on hobbing machines, multi-tasking machines, and five axis machining centres. The hobs can be supplied with standard carbide inserts for generating gear profiles in accordance with CIN3972-2; custom made options are available for specific profiles.
