New show, conference focused on technologies, strategies to maintain manufacturing competitiveness

The Canadian manufacturing industry must embrace advanced manufacturing technologies and strategies to secure its place in the competitive global marketplace.

That is thinking behind a new trade show and conference, Advanced Manufacturing Expo (AMEXPO) and Shop Insights 2012 Conference. The two-day trade show, sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and co-located with AMCON Design and Contract Manufacturers Expo at the International Centre, will be held September 25 and 26. The one-day conference and tabletop exhibit will be held September 25.

The one-fee for all events ensures that event registrants can take full advantage of the trade show and the conference.

Nick Samain, group show manager for SME, says hundreds have already pre-registered for the event and exhibitor space is quickly filling up.

“Manufacturers are recognizing more and more that they must incorporate new thinking, new strategies and new technologies into their manufacturing businesses to remain viable and compete on the world stage.”

And for exhibitors, “it’s an opportunity to present themselves as suppliers of advanced manufacturing solutions and to meet one-on-one with manufacturing decision makers in key sectors, such as aerospace, automotive and telecommunications, to name just a few of the industries that attendees represent.”

Close to 100 exhibitors from the advanced manufacturing industry will showcase productivity solutions to help businesses gain a competitive edge.

Asked what sets this manufacturing trade show and conference apart from others and Samain says the event “is about taking manufacturing to the next level by providing a platform for learning about leading edge technologies in manufacturing. Attendees can take in the show, speak one-on-one with suppliers of productivity solutions and then attend world-class educational sessions to learn about the latest technologies and processes for advanced manufacturing.”

That learning includes the Insights 2012 conference, lead by Shop Metalworking Technology. The conference includes three streams focused on fabricating technologies, manufacturing technologies and operations management.
