Bystronic has introduced the ByStar Fiber 12kW with higher speeds, a newly designed cutting head with a slimmer profile, and an expanded spectrum of applications.

The newly designed cutting head offers a “BeamShaper” option that delivers consistent cutting quality on varied material qualities from 0.125 to 1.125 in. (3.175 to 28.57 mm).

Bystronic says the move to 12kW from the 3-10kW models currently available represents “an enormous technological leap.” With the 12kW laser, the ByStar Fiber’s cutting speeds increase up to 20 per cent on average (when laser cutting with nitrogen) compared to the previously available 10kW laser source.

“This laser power is of interest to companies that want to achieve higher cutting speeds with material thicknesses starting at .125 inch and thicker, in order to increase their productivity per unit of time. The result is higher productivity with lower costs per part,” says Stefan Sanson, Bystronic product manager for laser cutting.

The slimmer design of the new cutting head decreases the possibility of contact with cut features during the cutting process. Bystronic has also reduced the number of different components and accommodating important technical functions in the interior of the cutting head. The company says the new design also decreases maintenance and operating costs because the integrated technology is better protected from contamination occurring from cutting dust, for example.

The new “BeamShaper” function enhances cutting quality for steel up to a sheet thickness of 1.125 inch (28.57 mm). This option can be selected with the purchase of a new ByStar Fiber or retrofitted at a later date. “BeamShaper” allows for adjustment of the laser beam profile to cut greater sheet thicknesses and variable sheet metal qualities. In materials up to 1.125 inch (28.57 mm), the new function thus raises the quality of the cut surface and increases cutting speed by up to 20 per cent.
