Two Windsor manufacturers are the latest recipients in a recent slew of funding announcements by the Federal government. Newmak of Canada Corp. in partnership with Arbec Tool and Machine Ltd., both based in Windsor, ON, have received funding of up to $3 million to support development of stronger engine blocks made of lightweight aluminum.

Magna International Inc., in cooperation with the US Department of Energy (DOE) and partners FCA US and Grupo Antolin, announced it has developed a new, ultralight door architecture that achieves the project objective of 42.5 per cent mass savings compared to an average current production door.

Hobart Institue of Technology (HIWT) in Troy, OH, has opened the "Next Generatin Welder Learning Facility. The (16,000 sq ft) facility began to host classes in late October and is an important addition to the (13-acre) campus that has trained more than 100,000 welders.
