A Dartmouth, NS, machining and weldng shop is expanding with the acquisition of another Nova Scotia machine shop business based in Musquodoboit Harbour.

Sean MacPhee and Craig Langille, owners of Velocity Machining & Welding Inc., have acquired all shares of Techtronics Machine Works Ltd. as of May 1, 2015, from former owner Ron Marks.

Velocity is pleased to be adding high quality, high precision capacity to its own machining, welding and fabricating operations. Techtronics shares the Velocity values of high quality, responsiveness and fair pricing. The two shops will continue to operate as separate but complimentary entities bringing their customers the benefits of the combination of the two companies. Ron Marks will be stepping down immediately from his position as president of Techtronics and Sean MacPhee will be taking over that role.

Techtronics has built a reputation for craftsmanship in its work, with responsiveness and accuracy being standard fare, says co-owner MacPhee. The company has long standing customers in the ocean science, defence, life science, energy and communications sectors, among others. Their success is due in part to a collaborative approach in developing proto-types, product lines and machining from customer-engineered drawings, all within a quality management system.

“We are excited to bring these two capabilities together. I really think it’s a case of the sum being greater than the parts,” says Sean MacPhee, president of Velocity Machining & Welding Inc. “We see both companies benefitting from the additional capacity and expertise this acquisition brings. With both companies in growth mode, this was the perfect opportunity for us to add capacity while keeping true to our common roots of “best in class” service and support. The great work Ron has done over the years made this a perfect match.”

“Techtronics has been growing and our operations are working really well. We have an exceptional team,” says Marks. “Velocity and Techtronics have a shared business philosophy that focuses on innovation, quality service and customer satisfaction, all of which are dependent upon a highly skilled and highly valued work force. I could tell from the start that Techtronics employees and customers would benefit significantly from having access to a much wider range of services and technical expertise.”
