Lincoln Electric Company of Canada, Toronto, was recently recognized for its energy management initatives and accreditation to the ISO 5001 energy management standard.

UL DQS Inc., Chicago, IL, held an appreciation event for Lincoln to recognize the company for its initiatives in energy management and to present a certification plaque to president and CEO of Lincoln Electric in Canada Joseph Doria.

“The ISO 5001 seemed like a natural standard for us because we already had ISO 9001 and ISO 14000,” says Joseph Doria, president and CEO of Lincoln Electric Co. of Canada. “The 5001 standard combines quality, environment and energy issues into one standard and it is an important standard that we will see more companies begin to adopt globally.”

Doria adds what is key to the standard is that it provides a structure around which a company can quantify its achievement and measure its results.

“This is a focused program that measures and documents results and allows companies to see the savings they can achieve through energy management.”

Ganesh Rao, president and CEO of certification firm UL DQS Inc., based in Chicago, says it’s important for companies to understand how they can benefit from achieiving the ISO standard.

“At the end of the day it has to benefit the company and it has to improve the bottom line. We think Lincoln’s accomplishment in this area is important and we wanted to recognize the company’s leadership position with ISO 5001 energy management standard.”
