Lincoln Electric and SES to collaborate on metal AM

Lincoln Electric and Stress Engineering Services (SES) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize collaboration in large-format metal additive manufacturing.

The collaboration is intended to help customers accelerate the adoption and qualification of AM parts. SES assists on the front end with design and analysis and the back end with validation testing, leveraging its design and test capabilities for large components. Lincoln Electric has the vertical integration and installed capacity needed to deliver high quality AM components quickly.

The agreement is aimed in particular at the energy, power generation, and oil & gas industries which are turning to additive manufacturing for large-scale metal part fabrication, drawn by the opportunity to reduce lead times and costs, to move to digital inventory, and to increase design flexibility and quality, especially as compared to castings.

“SES customers have pain points in sourcing and manufacturing their large metal components that Lincoln Electric Additive Solutions can alleviate,” says Michael Whitehead, SVP, president, global automation, cutting and additive businesses for Lincoln Electric. “By working with Stress Engineering Services, we anticipate driving additive adoption faster by helping customers realize the myriad benefits provided by large-scale metal additive manufacturing.”
