Eclipse Automation has purchased custom automation equipment manufacturer D&D Automation of Stratford, ON.

Eclipse is based in nearby Cambridge, ON, and has nine locations and about 500 employees in Canada and the U.S. It builds custom automated manufacturing equipment for the life sciences, energy, transportation, mining, nuclear, industrial/consumer and electronics/telecommunications industries.

Eclipse is the largest privately owned custom automation supplier in Canada. It has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best-Managed Companies for overall business excellence by Deloitte’s Best Managed Companies program five years in a row.

The D&D acquisition is part of Eclipse’s strategy to grow its engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) controls engineering side.

“The D&D acquisition allows us to have a division that is truly focused on EPCM controls engineering and we look forward to new opportunities that will expand and strengthen our market offering,” said Steve Mai, president and CEO of Eclipse Automation. “The highly skilled workforce at D&D are an excellent fit to our existing talented pool of employees at Eclipse. Together, our capabilities and the client-centric values of both organizations will be a great benefit to our customers.”

Founded in 1992, D&D specializes in controls and systems engineering and designs PLC control systems for robotics, industrial machinery, manufacturing lines, process environments and other automated facilities. It has 52 employees.
