Mazak Corp has added its Mazatrol SmoothG Control and its Smooth Technology software suite to its VTC-200C vertical machining centre.
The control complements the VTC-200C’s full traveling-column design, automatic tool changer and 40-taper spindle, to boost cycle times and for very long and heavy workpieces in industries such as construction, agriculture and energy production.
The Mazatrol SmoothG CNC offers programming, performance and monitoring functions, as well as the ability to use both EIA/ISO and conversational programming. The hardware includes a pivoting CNC panel and 19-inch multi-touch LCD control screen, and the CFast memory card stores up to 32GB of program data.
The VTC-200C machine platform delivers a standard 15,000 rpm, 30 hp (10 per cent ED, 110 nM) spindle for a variety of metalcutting applications. Additionally, the machine rapid traverses in all axes at a rate of 3998 cpm (1,574 ipm), while standard integration of Intelligent Thermal Shield (ITS) software helps maintain machine accuracy in varying factory environments.
The machine’s fixed 200 X 50.8 cm (78.74 X 20 in.) table provides process flexibility for different applications, and its optional center partition can divide the work envelope into two work areas to allow the machine to be in cycle in one area while operators load, unload or set up a part in the other. The machine’s axis travels measure 166 cm (65.35 in.) in X, and 50.8 cm (20 in.) in both Y and Z axes.
