An espresso served by a collaborative robot, a robotic machining cell, new machining automation handling solutions and innovations in turning were part of the offerings at DMG MORI Canada’s Technology Days.

The two-day event, held at the company’s Mississauga facility, featured technical presentations from DMG MORI, Sandvik Coromant, ABB and Mastercam, as well as machining and automation demos.

Part of the machining demonstrations included this automated handling solution, the ABB FlexLoader on a DMG MORI DMU 80 eVo linear machine

DMG MORI Canada has run Technology Days for several years now, but Daniel Medrea, managing director for the Canadian business, says the focus this year was on machining automation solutions.

“We continue to sell more and more automation systems with our machines. That’s why we’ve partnered with companies like ABB. Here in our facility we’re demonstrating ABB automation on one of our machines.”

Medrea says DMG MORI is also promoting its new pallet pool systems and automation software solutions, “to help manufacturers improve productivity.”

While there has been some economic uncertainty in North America, Medrea says the outlook for DMG MORI is great.
“We’ve had a fantastic year, the best ever and have sold 150 machines in 2018 and that’s an increase from 2017. We continue to grow in Western Canada, particularly in Alberta where we have sold between 40 and 50 machines. And our staff is growing too to support our customers. Today we have 70 employees, with 25 service people on the road and seven application engineers on the road.”
