Dormer Tools and Pramet Tools have come together under a new corporate name, Dormer Pramet. The newly formed entity debuted at IMTS 2014 in Chicago in September with the presentation of its new Pramet indexable range of cutting tools.

Dormer, based in Elgin, IL, is well established in the North American market with a reputation for providing reliable rotary cutting tools for drilling, threading, milling and reaming purposes.

Pramet has, over the last 60 years, built a reputation in Europe for producing a wide range of indexable inserts, with specific expertise in the heavy engineering and rail industries.

Jonas Gustavsson, president of Sandvik Machining Solutions, and Andrew Hunter, president of Dormer Pramet in North America, attended a launch event to celebrate the merger with more than 120 staff and customers in Chicago during IMTS.

“We were delighted to showcase our enhanced product program at IMTS,” said Hunter.”With our existing affiliate product brands Precision Twist Drill, Union Butterfield and Dormer we have a strong, established rotary tooling package. Adding the Pramet indexable range to our portfolio significantly enhances our customer offer, enabling us to become a one-stop shop for a wide selection of machining applications across a broad range of industry sectors.”

Group president, Fabrizio Resmini speaking about the North American launch, added that “from a product perspective, customers now have access to a wide range of rotary and indexable hole-making, milling, threading and turning tools from one single source. The fact that the companies are also a good ‘fit’ from a business culture perspective makes the combining of our capabilities even more logical.”

As well as a stronger product line up, expanded warehousing and logistics capabilities, Dormer Pramet will offer enhanced product training and application assistance with a new interactive e-learning program and several smart-phone apps.

“It is no secret; we have merged to expand our market share,” said Resmini. “With the combined strengths and knowledge of Dormer and Pramet we are in a strong position to provide the crucial support required. From reliable products that perform to a consistently high standard, to experienced technical backup from our engineers, businesses across the globe know they can trust us to deliver.”
