Lincoln expands automation capabilities with acquisition

LIncoln Electric Co., Cleveland, OH, has acquired intellectual property related to laser welding and marking systems produced by Process Equipment Co. (PECo) of Tippo City, OH. The company’s Wayne Trail subsidiary, which produces laser welding, cutting, ablation, cladding and marking systems, will service and support the installed base of PECo laser welding and marketing systems.

 Wayne Trail has also expanded its existing team of laser processing experts by hiring key PECo personnel, which will help provide a seamless transition for existing customers.

John A. Campbell, general manager of Wayne Trail, says “Wayne Trail is fully prepared to meet the needs of the automotive powertrain laser welding and processing industry, both domestically and internationally. We have already been awarded laser welding system contracts from transmission gear manufacturers and are currently developing solutions for other powertrain components, including transfer cases and drive axles.”

Steve Hedlund, president of Global Automation Solutions for Lincoln Electric, adds that Lincoln is, “excited to expand our portfolio of automation solutions for automotive manufacturers. Wayne Trail is uniquely positioned to help customers adopt new laser process technologies to meet changing industry demands and requirements.”
