Honda, Toyota, Subaru hit record auto sales in Canada

Automotive industry sales continue to stay strong with recent sales reports from Honda Canada, Toyota Canaa and Subaru Canada. Honda Canada set an all time monthly record in March, while Toyota Canada’s sales for made-in-Canada vehicles remained strong and Subaru Canada saw its best ever March sales.

Honda Canada sees all-time monthly sales record

Combined March sales of 19,175 units by the Honda and Acura divisions of Honda Canada Inc. represented a 17 per cent increase over last year’s sales, setting an all-time monthly sales record for the company. The Honda Automobile Division set an all-time monthly sales record, gaining 19 per cent on sales of 17,392 units. The Acura Division reported March sales of 1,783 units, up 4 per cent over last year.

“Supported by HR-V at the entry level of the lineup, CR-V and Civic are clearly winners with Canadian consumers,” says Jean Marc Leclerc, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Honda Canada Inc. “Despite the market trend to trucks and SUVs, the Civic family continues to offer customers a variety of packages to suit their needs.”

“Competitive market offers celebrating Acura’s 30th anniversary in Canada were extended into March, helping propel MDX to double digit gains. Good news for the Acura brand will continue with the spring launch of the 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid and the unveil of the significantly enhanced 2018 TLX performance sedan in New York on April 11,” adds Leclerc.

Strong growth for Toyota’s made-in-Canada vehicles

Two Toyota vehicles and one Lexus SUV–all proudly made in Canada–had particularly strong March sales for Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI).

Overall, TCI is reporting an increase in March sales with 19,406 Toyota (including Scion) and Lexus vehicles sold, up 1.6 per cent compared to last year. The Lexus division experienced a 15.8 per cent increase and ninth consecutive monthly record, with 2,124 units sold, while the Toyota division (including Scion) recorded sales of 17,282 vehicles, up 0.1 per cent compared to 2016.

Toyota’s made-in-Canada RAV4 and Corolla continue to grow in popularity. With comfort, versatility and the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) standard on both vehicles, the RAV4 set a March record of 4,272 units sold, up 7.6% compared to 2016, while Corolla sales comprised of 4,778 units, up 31.5 per cent compared to last year.

Lexus’ Canadian-made SUV, the Lexus RX, also experienced a 12.7 per cent increase in sales with 746 units sold.

March reflected TCI’s commitment to meeting Canadian demands by building its most popular vehicles locally, and continuously bringing advanced technologies to Canada’s award-winning plants in Cambridge and Woodstock, ON.

Best March ever for Subaru Canada

Subaru Canada saw its best ever March sales with 4,652 units retailed. Springing forward with sales of 10,422 units so far for 2017, momentum continues to build on the fifth consecutive annual sales record set in 2016 of 50,190 units, the first year topping 50,000 units.

Every region across Canada contributed with their own record sales for March. The western region was up 12.7 percent; Quebec was up 10.6 per cent; Ontario was up 8.9 per cent and the Atlantic region was up 9.2 per cent.
