Hundreds of manufacturers attended the 14th annual machine tool distributors’ Joint Open House in southwestern Ontario in April.
The two-day event included 60+ CNC machines under power at participating distributor facilities – Elliott Matsuura Canada in Oakville, ON, SST-Canada, DMG MORI Canada and Ferro Technique in Mississauga.
Shop Metalworking Technology Magazine stopped by to see the machines and speak with some of the attendees. Brad McLean, machine shop supervisor at McCloskey International, was on the tour and Shop caught up with him at Elliott Matsuura’s facility where he was eyeing some of the turning centres. “We’re interested in what’s new and are especially looking at larger gantry style machines.”
Father and son team Mark and Michael Nye of Nye Manufacturing, based in Mississauga, ON, were exploring their options at DMG MORI’s facility. Nye manufactures custom attachments for demolition equipment. President Mark Nye says they’re looking at machines that “would fit our budget” and was exploring his options during his visits to the facilities.
Shop met John Ambroziak and Scott Johnson of HYD-Mech Group Ltd. based in Woodstock, ON, at Ferro Technique’s facility. The metal cutting bandsaw manufacturer is interested in large vertical machines to add to its machine shop.
Here’s a look at the JOH.
