As interest in five axis machining continues to grow, more suppliers are holding seminars and other educational events to showcase the benefits and technologies associated with the process.
Such was the case earlier this month when Emuge Corp. joined Open Mind, the Quebec Aerospace Association and the National Research Council Canada, joined together for a seminar to highlight simplified programming and five axis simultaneous toolpath optimization for machining complex aerospace parts.
Held at AQA’s facility in Montreal, QC, 40 attendees were on hand to view live cutting demonstrations on a DMG DMU 100P machining center. Attendees witnessed firsthand how integrating the industry’s leading machining centres, end mills and software when applied with the latest techniques, can produce great gains in high productivity machining, while reducing costs and improving product quality.
In addition to the DMG machining centre, technologies being showcased included Emuge’s end mills, such as the TiNox-Cut products for cutting titanium, nickel-based alloys and stainless steel.

The demonstration featured Emuge High Productivity End Mills that machine (from roughing to finishing) complex, precision parts. Emuge also discussed other end mills ideally suited for aerospace machining including TiNox-Cut end mills for cutting titanium, nickel-based alloys and tough stainless steels, and Alu-Jet-Cut Solid Carbide End Mills designed for large volume machining of aluminum. Open Mind demonstrated its new hyperMaxx performance roughing module, which the company claims increases cutter life in high temperature alloys.
