The Canadian aerospace industry, a key customer for metal manufacturing, contributes over $27B in GDP to the Canadian economy, according to the 2023 Guide to Canada’s Aerospace Industry.

Canada is the only country that ranked in the top 5 across civil flight simulator, engine, and aircraft sub-segments in 2022, according to the 2023 Guide, published by the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada.

More than 80% of aerospace manufacturing revenues are export oriented. In 2022 the Canadian aerospace manufacturing industry exported close to $18.7B worth of products to 196 countries.

This is an industry heavily focused on R&D. The Canadian aerospace industry ranked first among all Canadian manufacturing industries in 2022 for R&D intensity, investing $683M. Aerospace manufacturing R&D intensity and share of STEM employment were over 2X higher than the manufacturing average.
